Danco Island used to be a British base but the base was dismantled and removed in 2004 to comply with the Antarctic Treaty.

On Danco Island I walked along a beach amidst an austere antarctic wilderness with water as clear as a mountain stream.

Port Lockroy is an old British outpost that has been restored and designated an historic site and monument under the Antarctic Treaty.  It has a museum, souvenir shop and post office.

On our return voyage we came within sight of Cape Horn.
