The day we visited Tian'anmen Square, French President Chirac and other European Union officials were in Beijing negotiating terms for China's entry into the World Trade Organization. Here they are attending a welcome ceremony in the Square. That is why you see French flags flying in a couple of photos.

Tian'anmen Square is the largest public square in the world.
