I tried to make as many trips down to the Falls as I could while I was there. I wanted to view them at all different times of day in all different kinds of light.
Some day I would like to return to view the Falls at night under the light of a full moon with the color spectrum of the rainbow reversed because of the reflected sunlight. In this photo we are at a point above the Eastern Cataract where the Zambezi plunges into the gorge. About 2 people a year fall to their deaths either from accident or suicide. The latest victim was an elephant who ventured too close.
If you look carefully, you can see several people in yellow rain coats traversing the other side of the gorge.
This was my second trip to Africa and I wouldn't hesitate to return again and again. Before I met my wife, Sumi, I rarely traveled but since traveling with her I've been inspired to see much more. It was evident on this trip that she has instilled a love of adventurous travel in her grandchildren as well. Traveling anywhere throughout the world is exciting but Africa holds unique attractions for me. In many ways it is still the dark continent, the heart of darkness holding modernity at bay with its raw landscapes, smells and hazards.
